Small-Scale Chemistry Laboratory Training for Secondary School Teachers in the Lao PDR

23–24 July 2026 Institute for Educational Science Research, Ministry of Education and Sports Vientiane, Lao People’s Democratic Republic

Her Excellency Mrs. Krongkanit Rakcharoen, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Thailand to the Lao People’s Democratic Republic, graciously presided over the opening ceremony of the Small-Scale Chemistry Laboratory Training Programme for Secondary School Teachers in the Lao PDR and officially declared the training programme open.

The programme was jointly organised by the Chemical Society of Thailand under the Patronage of Professor Dr. Her Royal Highness Princess Chulabhorn Krom Phra Srisavangavadhana and Bangkok Bank Public Company Limited from 23 to 24 July 2026.

The programme aimed to promote the teaching and learning of chemistry through Small-Scale Chemistry experiments, an innovative approach that places particular emphasis on laboratory safety, the efficient and economical use of chemicals and other resources, and environmentally responsible science education.

At the opening ceremony on 23 July 2026, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Laavanh Wongkhamsan, Head of the Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education and Sports of the Lao PDR, delivered welcoming remarks to the participating teachers and distinguished guests.

Professor Dr. Vudhichai Parasuk, President of the Chemical Society of Thailand, also extended a warm welcome to the participants through a video message. This was followed by a report presented by Professor Dr. Supawan Tantayanon, Director of the BBL–CST Small-Scale Chemistry Laboratory Training Programme for Secondary School Teachers, outlining the background, objectives, and anticipated outcomes of the programme.

On this occasion, Ms.Chadaporn Urajchat, Vice President and Branch Manager of Bangkok Bank Public Company Limited, Vientiane Branch, delivered congratulatory remarks and reaffirmed Bangkok Bank’s commitment to continuously supporting the advancement of science education and the professional development of teachers.

The training programme was made possible through the strong collaboration of members of the Executive Committee of the Chemical Society of Thailand, academics from several universities, and expert trainers from PTT Global Chemical Public Company Limited.

Throughout the programme, the trainers shared their knowledge, practical expertise, and experiences in Small-Scale Chemistry teaching and learning. The training was designed to enhance the professional competencies of chemistry teachers and contribute to raising the standard of science education in the Lao People’s Democratic Republic towards a more sustainable future. 

On 23 July 2026 at 6:00 p.m., H.E. Mrs.Krongkanit Rakcharoen, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Thailand to the Lao People’s Democratic Republic, hosted a dinner reception in honour of the delegation from the Chemical Society of Thailand on the occasion of their visit to the Lao PDR to conduct the Small-Scale Chemistry Laboratory Training Programme for Secondary School Teachers. The reception was held at the Residence of the Ambassador of Thailand in Vientiane.

The dinner reception provided an opportunity to strengthen cordial relations and cooperation among the organisations involved in the programme, while also recognising the commitment of the Chemical Society of Thailand and its delegation to promoting chemistry education and enhancing the professional capacity of secondary school teachers in the Lao PDR.

On 24 July 2026 at 4:30 p.m., following the successful completion of the two-day training programme, Mr. Phoukha Saklokham, Deputy Director-General of the Department of General Education, Ministry of Education and Sports of the Lao PDR, graciously presided over the closing ceremony.

During the ceremony, certificates of completion were presented to all participating teachers who had successfully completed the training programme and undertaken both the online pre-training and post-training assessments.

The ceremony marked the successful conclusion of the Small-Scale Chemistry Laboratory Training Programme for Secondary School Teachers in the Lao PDR, reflecting the shared commitment of all participating organisations to strengthening teachers’ knowledge and practical skills, promoting safe and effective chemistry teaching, and contributing to the sustainable advancement of science education in the Lao People’s Democratic Republic.
